Blue Gemstones
Everyone knows about the classic, beautiful deep blue sapphire.
But how much do you know about the other incredible blue gemstones out there?
But how much do you know about the other incredible blue gemstones out there?
There is a wide range of precious blue gems, including blue zircon, tanzanite and sapphire. Both zircon and tanzanite are birthstones of December! All of these blue stones have their own individual appeal and unique characteristics.
Blue Zircon
Blue zircon is an intensely bright blue stone.
It actually has a high refractive index, similar to diamonds, so it will create those rainbow sparkles that we are so used to seeing with diamonds!
Even though their names might be similar, zircon actually has nothing to do with cubic zirconia, so don’t get them confused!
Tanzanite
Tanzanite is a beautiful gem, most often found in deep, dark blue and blue-violet tones. This stone is named after Tanzania, where it was first found in 1967. A fun fact about tanzanite is that it is pleochroic, which means that if you turn the stone and look at it from three different angles, it will appear three different colors from each direction.
Sapphire
Of course we can never forget about the beautiful sapphire!
This stone has been revered for centuries, associated with royalty, truth, sincerity and faithfulness. Sapphire’s true blue hue has been associated with the sky and the heavens. Sapphire is the birthstone for September and is the gemstone for the 5th and 45th anniversaries, but there is really no wrong occasion for sapphires!
